Merson and Dawson in heated clash live on Sky after shock Tottenham claim
Paul Merson and Michael Dawson have got heated on Sky Sports News in a Tottenham transfer debate.
There was a need for additions during the winter window and maybe Antonin Kinsky, Kevnin Danso and Mathys Tel weren’t enough to make a huge improvement at Spurs.
With that being said, a striker could have been brought in to add more goals to the Lilywhites’ squad, especially while Dominic Solanke is out injured.
One potential target who has been discussed could also be of interest to Arsenal in the summer.
Harry Kane could join Arsenal rather than Tottenham
There is no doubt that the Gunners are in need of a recognised number nine and have been linked heavily with a move for Alexander Isak.
With that being said, Merson has identified Bayern Munich star Harry Kane as an option for Mikel Arteta’s side once the window opens at the end of the season.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (9 February), he said: “There’s not a lot around, I’d go for Harry Kane. I’d pay the £60m for Harry Kane. 100 per cent.”
Former Spurs captain Dawson took issue with this and couldn’t see the England captain following in Sol Campbell’s footsteps in North London.
He replied: “I don’t think Kane would have gone to Arsenal. 100 per cent Harry Kane would not go to Arsenal. No chance. In my opinion, I still don’t think he would ever go to Arsenal.”
Tottenham must go all out to sign Harry Kane
If there is a world where the 31-year-old is going to depart the Bundesliga and return to the Premier League, the Lilywhites have to make sure he returns to N17.
The striker scored 279 goals in North London and could look to add to that as he seeks to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record.
This could represent the perfect opportunity for Spurs to bring home their iconic talisman who may jump at the move back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It is unclear whether he would welcome a move to Arsenal, but given his links to the Gunners as a child, it isn’t out of the realms of possibility.
Ange Postecoglou and Co. need to make sure that he doesn’t have a decision to make if he wants to return to England come the summer.
