Mathys Tel ‘finished at Tottenham’ amid Leroy Sane transfer news
Mathys Tel could be set to return to Bayern Munich following a fresh update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Leroy Sane.
Tel joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window, with a £46million buy option included in the agreement.
Having not played many minutes with his parent club this season before joining Tottenham, it took Tel a few games to settle in and regain his fitness. However, the 20-year-old showed much more promise in the final few weeks of the season.
As a result, it looked as though Tel’s stay with Tottenham could be made permanent.
However, after the latest update on Sane’s proposed move to North London, Tel’s future with Spurs looks far less assured.

Tottenham hold concrete interest in Sane
Tottenham’s links to Sane have quickly gathered pace, with his agent Pivi Zahavi recently meeting with Bayern’s sporting director to discuss summer dealings.
There have been further advancements, with Christian Falk informing CF Bayern (30 May) that Spurs hold a “concrete” interest in Sane, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.
Players | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Mathys Tel (Bayern) | 14 | 0 | 1 |
Mathys Tel (Spurs) | 20 | 3 | 1 |
Leroy Sane | 45 | 13 | 6 |
It is also believed that a transfer for the 29-year-old would make recruiting Tel on a permanent deal unlikely.
Tel’s statistics this season show why he has already played as an understudy to Sane in their time together in Germany, both in terms of goals and assists.
At 20 years old, the Frenchman has age on his side. However, he is yet to prove he is consistently able to tackle the Premier League, unlike the former Manchester City player, who has two Premier League titles to his name.
Sane deal to Spurs looks likely
Sane played a role in securing Harry Kane his first Bundesliga title this season, yet he only started just over half of the games he was involved in.
The former PFA young player of the year is thought to be keen on a return to England and will be attracted to Spurs’ offer of Champions League football.
Given Daniel Levy‘s closeness with Sane’s agent, striking a deal for the winger should not pose any unforeseen issues, much to the dismay of Tel.
