Marcus Rashford’s transfer preference made clear as Tottenham eye deal

Tottenham target Marcus Rashford looks set to call time on his Manchester United career.

Rashford came through the ranks at United and has made 426 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 138 goals and lifting five major trophies during that time.

However, the forward appears to have no future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan with Aston Villa. However, the West Midlands side have elected not to trigger the £40million clause to sign the England international, which has alerted Tottenham to his situation as they look to sign at least one potent forward this summer.

Rashford prefers a move abroad

Tottenham have been eyeing a deal for Rashford after it was revealed that the 27-year-old would be willing to accept a pay cut on his current deal to facilitate a move away from United [CaughtOffside].

This is welcome news to any suitors and the Red Devils, as the forward reportedly earns over £300,000 a week and has three years left on his current contract.

As per Fabrizio Romano (30 June), Spurs could sign Rashford for the same £40m price tag included in his clause with Unai Emery’s side, as United have extended the offer to all suitors.

However, Tottenham have hit a potential snag as The Athletic reports (1 July) that the United academy product prefers to move abroad and ideally to a club where he can compete for titles.

Spurs could argue that their UEFA Europa League triumph and subsequent qualification to the Champions League prove that they are capable of competing for major honours, but they will have to figure out a way to compensate for Rashford’s desire to test himself overseas.

Spurs are quickly running out of options

Tottenham have delayed entering the transfer market for so long that they are again running out of options and risk having to compensate with imperfect signings.

Their indecision over Eberechi Eze has opened the door to Arsenal, while Chelsea are threatening to enter the race for Mohammed Kudus after finalising their deal for João Pedro.

With a deal for Rashford now looking increasingly unlikely, pressure will really start to mount on Daniel Levy as the Lilywhites grow increasingly tired of the same story repeating itself in N17.
