Luka Vuskovic talks held for £12m Tottenham ace to join banned brother, permanent sale decision made

Luka Vuskovic is set to be one of the final players to depart Tottenham this summer.

Vuskovic shone during his Tottenham debut against Reading during pre-season.

The defender bagged a goal and an assist coming off the bench in a feat which earned Vuskovic best in the world shouts at Spurs. His impressive display made it clear that he would serve the North London club for years to come.

However, the Croatian could leave as quickly as he came as Tottenham advances talks for his departure.

Tottenham continue talks with Hamburg for Luka Vuskovic loan

Tottenham has decided to loan Vuskovic as well as several other young talents this summer.

While the North London club are keen to develop him away from Hotspur Way, Tottenham fans were unimpressed with Vuskovic’s potential loan move.

However, Spurs are closing in on a deal which will see Vuskovic arrive at German side Hamburg on loan.

As reported in the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (page 69, 24 August), Tottenham have held further talks with Hamburg over a loan move for the young defender.

This would see him reunited with his brother, Mario Vuskovic, who is already on the books at Hamburg but is serving a doping ban until November 2026.

Despite this, Hamburg wants the Croatian international to make it a “family affair” in Germany. However, they have been told in no uncertain terms by Tottenham that there will be no buy option.

As a result, Tottenham fans can expect to see him at Hotspur Way next season if the deal goes through.

Is Germany the best destination for Luka Vuskovic?

Daniel Levy could find that a loan abroad could be detrimental to Vuskovic’s development plan.

Take Alejo Veliz, for example. The Lilywhites signed the striker on 8 August 2023 from Rosario Central. Rather than loaning him out to an English club, he saw loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol.

Both ended in heartbreak, and Tottenham have now loaned Veliz back to Rosario in a last-ditch effort to revive his form. Before arriving in North London, the forward had little experience in England.

This is similar to Vuskovic, and as such, a move to a Championship side may have been the better option. With the defender still needing to adapt to the pace of Premier League football, his loan move to Hamburg could come back to bite Tottenham like Veliz’s did.
