Liam Delap to Tottenham: Agbonlahor shares transfer verdict amid Arsenal update

Tottenham could make a summer swoop for Liam Delap after an excellent season at Ipswich Town.

The 22-year-old has been a shining light for a struggling Tractor Boys side, which looks destined to be relegated from the Premier League.

If that is to be the case, it feels likely that the striker is going to be on the move once again in the upcoming transfer window.

This could see Spurs come up against Arsenal to land the England under-21 international’s signature after Gabby Agbonlahor’s latest verdict.

Delap could leave Ipswich Town for Tottenham

It does feel as if Ange Postecoglou is in need of a new striker in the summer to add competition and depth to his squad.

Although Dominic Solanke has had a positive first campaign in North London, his injury record means a backup number nine signing would make sense.

The Lilywhites may not find a better option than Delap after his 10 goals and two assists across 28 appearances for a relegation-threatened side.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Thursday (27 March, 6:08am), Alan Brazil questioned whether the N17 outfit would be interested in the forward.

He said: “Would Tottenham take a punt? When you step up, there’s a lot of pressure, but the kid is willing, puts a shift in and he can score a goal.”

Agbonlahor added: “I think you need that love of a manager and that trust. If Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool who need a striker, I’m sure Delap would do a better job than Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Nunez or Richarlison.”

Delap would be great for Tottenham

There is little doubt that the former Manchester City youngster is one of the brightest English talents emerging right now.

After an average loan spell at Hull City last season, the 22-year-old has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

The striker has so much to his game, which could make him an excellent asset to Spurs moving forward into the new season.

Signing Delap would give Postecoglou’s side excellent depth in the number nine role and would allow Son Heung-min to focus his efforts on his wing play.

This could prove to be a boost moving into a new campaign after what has been a difficult year in North London.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Delap would welcome a move to N17, especially if Arsenal and Mikel Arteta also come knocking.
