Johan Lange promise to be put to test amid £61m Tottenham and Murillo update

Tottenham have learned that it will take £61million to sign Nottingham Forest defender Murillo in the summer transfer window.

Spurs are said to be one of a number of teams interested in signing the Brazil international, along with fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United.

As per Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte, Forest will only sell Murillo if their valuation of around £61 is met in full.

The report adds that interest is really starting to build behind the scenes among those clubs for Murillo, who has featured 19 times in the Premier League this season.

And that could see a recent promise made by Johan Lange at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium put to the test sooner rather than later.

What has Johan Lange promised at Tottenham this summer?

Lange was put in front of the cameras amid serious fan backlash following a disappointing winter transfer window.

Conor Gallagher was brought in from Atletico Madrid for a large sum, granted, but that was offset by Brennan Johnson’s move to Nottingham Forest.

However, Lange insisted Tottenham have “big ambitions” for the summer window and that money is there to be spent.

Supporters will certainly hold the Spurs chief to those comments, with more than one big-money signing required in N17 before next season.

That is all assuming Igor Tudor keeps Tottenham in the Premier League, of course, with the Croatian having his work cut out.

Could Murillo be Cristian Romero’s replacement at Tottenham?

Speculation regarding Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is refusing to go away ahead of the summer, with a number of clubs seemingly interested.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Argentina international’s future lies away from North London, so a replacement will be required.

Murillo has certainly impressed for Forest in the Premier League, having made 87 appearances in the competition since arriving in the summer of 2023.

The centre-back has also played 13 times for Corinthians in the Brazilian top flight and is therefore relatively experienced at the age of 23.

As per Sofascore, Murillo has averaged a rating of 7.02 for his performances in the Premier League this season, compared to 7.11 for Romero, so there is not a great deal between them.

The big question, though, is whether Murillo is really worth the sizeable sum Forest are holding out for. Given the interest, the answer is a firm yes.
