‘Hayden Hackney transfer to spell the end for Yves Bissouma at Tottenham’

Tottenham could have a very different-looking midfield at the beginning of next season.

Yves Bissouma has struggled to replicate his Brighton form since arriving at Tottenham in 2022.

The defensive midfielder struggled for minutes under former manager Antonio Conte, and while Spurs supporters saw glimpses of his best during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure, Bissouma was unable to perform consistently.

Therefore, with just a year left on his contract and rumours of a potential exit, it now seems his days in North London are numbered, especially after an update on Spurs’ pursuit of Hayden Hackney.

Bissouma could be pushed out if Hackney joins Tottenham

Tottenham have been linked with Middlesbrough’s defensive midfielder, Hackney.

Spurs sent their scouts to watch Hackney, and it appears they were impressed with what they saw.

According to the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (8 June, page 61), Tottenham are currently monitoring the 22-year-old after a stand-out season for Middlesbrough.

He is likely to leave his hometown club this summer after an average season where they finished 10th in the Championship.

The young star plays in the same position as Bissouma, who could be pushed out as a result.

The 28-year-old recently posted his well wishes to Postecoglou via Instagram after the Australian was dismissed by Tottenham on Friday (6 June).

Bissouma was close to the former boss, who gave him an opportunity when he first took over at Spurs in 2023. The few days it took him to comment on his departure left fans speculating whether his silence was more than disappointment.

While he may have finally recognised his former coach, Hackney’s potential transfer has only added fuel to the fire.

Hackney would be a good Bissouma replacement

Hackney would not be a downgrade on Bissouma if he does leave Tottenham this summer.

The Englishman is a versatile player who is known for his ability to control the tempo of the game.

As a deep-lying playmaker, he has an impressive passing range, which he uses to effectively build attacks from the back. While he may not withstand opposition press through his progressive carries like Bissouma, his elite passing range allows him to apply a different approach when progressing the ball.

Therefore, Tottenham may be on track to purchase a hidden gem this summer.
