‘Frank could be close to first Tottenham signing’ as Bakayoko offer made

Johan Bakayoko could now be on his way to the Premier League after Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s previous attempts to sign the forward.

Frank appears to have identified the forward positions as a key area for Tottenham to strengthen this summer.

This is evidenced by the Lilywhites’ advances for Antoine Semenyo and Bryan Mbeumo, who have both been heavily linked with moves to North London in recent weeks.

However, there is a chance Bakayoko could well become the first arrival of the Frank era at Tottenham after a recent transfer development.

Bakayoko receives an offer from an unnamed Premier League club

Bakayoko has been admired by Frank for a while, with the Dane attempting to sign the Belgian while at Brentford.

It was widely reported that the Bees had a £30million bid accepted by PSV, but the player refused the chance to play at the Gtech Community Stadium.

At the time, Frank outlined the financial obstacles associated with signing players in the current market. However, the 51-year-old might have potentially reignited this interest now that he is at a club with more to spend on transfers.

As reported by Yağız Sabuncuoğlu via DTalkingArsenal (22 June), Bakayoko has received an offer from an unnamed Premier League club.

Considering Frank’s previous interest and the fact that the 22-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium previously, it is entirely conceivable that this unnamed Premier League club might be the Lilywhites upon request from Frank.

Brennan Johnson could be sidelined next season

Tottenham have been linked with several right-wingers this summer, such as Mbeumo and Mohammad Kudus. This could indicate that Brennan Johnson is not in Frank’s plans next season, or the manager does not trust him to hold down the flank alone.

The Tottenham winger was the club’s top scorer last season and netted the winner in the UEFA Europa League final. However, he is limited in how he approaches football.

Johnson excels when crashing into the box to get onto the end of an incoming cross. However, he struggles to beat his man when on the flank and lacks the technical flair and vision of some of his peers.

As such, Frank could be on the hunt for a winger who has a little bit more to their all-around game. Therefore, Johnson’s days at Tottenham may be numbered now that there is a new man in charge.
