Daniel Levy weighing up January move for star Jermain Defoe would ‘love to see at Tottenham’

Jermain Defoe could be about to get his wish with Tottenham already eyeing up their January transfer business.

The Lilywhites welcomed eight new additions to their ranks in the summer transfer window, as they gave their squad depth a vital boost ahead of the bulk of the Premier League campaign.

Randal Kolo Muani arrived at Tottenham shortly before Monday’s deadline, and although their summer business has only just concluded, they are already looking ahead.

Thomas Frank’s overhaul of the squad will continue into January, and Defoe is set to be delighted by their latest target.

Tottenham eye January move for Nathan Ake

Daniel Levy provided Tottenham with plenty of financial backing throughout the summer window, and that looks set to continue into the winter, with the Spurs chief’s eyes already fixed on another target.

Levy, Johan Lange and Co. are taking no time to relax after the conclusion of the window, and have already outlined a potential option for January.

The Lilywhites are “considering opening talks” with Manchester City over a move for Nathan Ake, according to CaughtOffside.

The Netherlands international looks likely to be on the fringes of the squad at the Etihad Stadium, and could be an option for Spurs, with Frank understood to be keen to add experienced cover at both centre-back and left-back.

Ake can cover both of those roles effectively, and Spurs’ plan would be to rotate him alongside the duo of Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie if a deal could be struck.

Jermain Defoe wants Nathan Ake at Spurs

Cristian Romero’s new contract at Tottenham has provided extra security in the defence, and they could now be about to boost their options in the backline with Ake.

The potential move for the 30-year-old has already got the seal of approval from Spurs legend Defoe, as he told The Beautiful Game podcast back in 2020 that he’d like to see his former club chase Ake, who he played with at Bournemouth.

“I would love to see him (Ake) at Tottenham,” the former striker said.

“He’s technically good, as Dutch players always are. He scores a lot of goals from set-pieces, and he is really brave, which is good.

“I would love to see him get to the next level and play in the Champions League. I feel he is that good, I’m sure.”

Defoe’s Champions League premonition for the defender has certainly come true, given that he has now won the competition with Manchester City, and that experience could be a vital element in Spurs’ pursuit of him.

Ake has fulfilled the potential that Defoe expected of him, and now he could be about to fulfil the other half of his statements by moving to N17.
