Daniel Levy set for crunch Romero transfer talks after Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham

Tottenham face weeks of uncertainty as they make several crucial decisions ahead of next season, which could make or break their campaign already.

Spurs won the Europa League to end their 17-year trophy drought, which will now see them compete in the Champions League next season, ensuring a big financial windfall over the next year.

However, this may not be enough to save Ange Postecoglou from the sack, as Tottenham endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign, finishing 17th on 38 points.

While a decision is yet to be made, Spurs will also face pressure over some of their playing squad, including centre-back Cristian Romero.

Atletico Madrid want Romero amid Postecoglou uncertainty

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is yet to make a firm decision over Postecoglou’s future, but there are indications that he may be prepared to sack him despite the Europa League victory.

Postecoglou has urged Spurs to keep Romero despite his own uncertain future, who could leave this summer with just two years left on his deal.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has now shared that Atletico Madrid could approach Tottenham and Levy this week over a deal for Romero, and with their managerial situation, it could put Spurs in a difficult situation.

As it stands, Romero has two years left on his contract, and Postecoglou wants him to stay. However, if the Australian is dismissed, then the centre-back could follow him out, and the new coach given the money from his sale to sign a replacement.

Romero could push for Atletico Madrid move

Romero was the man of the match in the Europa League final, and despite some mistakes, he has been a top performer for Spurs.

However, with two years left on his deal, if Romero is unwilling to extend his contract, now would be the best time for a sale.

Julian Alvarez recently called for Romero to join him at Atletico alongside other Argentina stars, and this could tempt him in a move to Madrid.

If Romero pushes for a move, the best thing Levy could do is to sell him and allow the new manager to bring in an option of his choosing, rather than letting the saga drag on for another year.
