Chelsea’s transfer plans may have opened the door for Tottenham to sign ‘exceptional’ star

Daniel Levy may have been handed a huge boost in landing another star at Tottenham this summer.

Levy may have taken a couple of hits this month, but he is no quitter.

Thomas Frank wants further reinforcements after Mohammed Kudus arrived from West Ham and Joao Palhinha joined on loan from Bayern Munich.

The Lilywhites saw their efforts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White go down the drain after two weeks, while Eberechi Eze opted to sign with Arsenal during the late stages of his Tottenham transfer.

But, with less than a week until deadline day, the chairman is looking to end the summer with a bang.

Alejandro Garnacho to help Tottenham in Xavi Simons transfer

Tottenham were interested in signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig earlier this window.

However, the Lilywhites opted to pursue alternative targets which has ended up a resounding failure. As a result, the North London club have set their sights on the former Paris Saint-German star once again.

The only issue is that he is currently in advanced negotiations to sign for Chelsea. On the surface, this seems like another case of Levy waiting too long to stake his claim. But there may still be hope of getting his transfer over the line.

As reported by The Independent on Wednesday, 27 August, Simons had been viewed as a certainty for Chelsea. But they have been focused on moving players out first, and are also pursuing Manchester United’s Garnacho.

This could leave an opening for Spurs to swoop in for Simons. However, they have yet to push on his deal as proactively as others.

Simons could be the perfect Tottenham signing

It is no wonder that the Lilywhites would want to sign Simons, who is considered a world-class talent. In quotes from Bundesliga News, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund referred to Simons as an “exceptional” player.

He said: “He is a very good player. He had a very good European Championship and a great season with Leipzig,

“He’s developed really well. I think he’s going to have a really good career at the highest level. He has everything, mentality, character and is just an exceptional player.”

An “exceptional” player for a UEFA Europa League-winning club seems like a match made in heaven.

What would Xavi Simons bring to Tottenham?

Simons would bring another ultra-attacking mind to Tottenham who possesses a fierce instinct to attack the opposition’s box.

The Dutchman is advanced in his ball-carrying abilities and often lays it off for teammates in dangerous positions around the area.

There is no doubt that he would increase Spurs’ attacking threat if paired with Richarlison, Dominic Solanke or Brennan Johnson.

As a result, with Chelsea giving Tottenham the perfect opening, it would be a real shame for Levy not to strike.
