Aston Villa ‘eye Cristian Romero transfer’ after Tottenham contract twist
Tottenham risk losing Cristian Romero in the summer transfer window after the latest contract news surrounding the defender.
The Argentina international is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2027, but they had been hoping to extend that for a longer period.
However, Spurs have now shelved plans to hold any further contract talks with the central defender as he is pushing to leave the Premier League side at the end of this season.
It has been a tough campaign for Ange Postecoglou’s side, and it hasn’t been a great one for Romero personally due to his injury record.
Romero has still been put straight into the team when he’s been fit and available due to how highly Postecoglou thinks of him, but that isn’t enough to keep Romero at the Lilywhites.

Aston Villa have made a decision on Romero
Romero is an experienced player in the Premier League and at international level, which is why he is expected to have no shortage of opportunities to leave Spurs this summer.
According to journalist Steve Kay, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is one of Romero’s admirers, and he would like to bring him to Villa Park.

Emery is looking to continue building his team in the Midlands so that they can compete both domestically and in Europe, and adding someone of Romero’s quality and experience would be beneficial in that quest.
The Villans will face competition in trying to sign the Spurs star, though, as it is believed that Atletico Madrid are also monitoring his situation right now.
Diego Simeone is said to be a big fan of the physical defender, and it is easy to see how Romero’s style would suit the way Atletico Madrid play.

Tottenham have set an asking price for Romero
Given that Spurs are no longer looking to extend Romero’s contract, they are expected to cash in on him this summer in a bid to bolster their transfer kitty to make improvements to the squad.
Tottenham have set a £60million valuation on Romero’s head, and they would be willing to accept a fee within that region.
