Arsenal ready to hijack Tottenham again as £52m Piero Hincapie approach made
Tottenham have approached Bayer Leverkusen over a move for Ecuador international Piero Hincapie, but yet again face competition from Arsenal.
Hincapie is keen to leave Leverkusen before the window shuts next week, with the Premier League club appearing best placed to secure the defender’s signature.
Tottenham are keen to make a signing to add to Thomas Frank’s options at the back, and also look set to sign a midfielder, with Nico Paz among those under consideration at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Leverkusen see Hincapie as a key part of Erik ten Hag’s project at The BayArena, but could be forced into a sale should an appropriate bid arrive before the window shuts.
Hincapie would be expected to rotate with Micky van de Ven at Spurs, with Frank electing to start with four defenders in his two Premier League games in charge.

Tottenham make £52m bid for Piero Hincapie
Hincapie has emerged among the Bundesliga’s strongest defenders over the last couple of seasons, becoming key in the second half of Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten league campaign.
And last season, the 23-year-old appeared in all but two of Die Werkself’s league fixtures, collecting four direct goal contributions along the way.
Tottenham’s interest this summer is well-reported, and the Lilywhites have now made the first move for the defender.
Fabrizio Romano reported on 25 August that decision-makers at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have approached Leverkusen about a loan deal with an obligation to buy worth around £52million.
Discussions are also underway over personal terms with Hincapie, who is keen to leave Leverkusen.
Arsenal to compete with Tottenham for Piero Hincapie
It was just last week that Arsenal completed a hijack of Spurs’ move for midfielder Eberechi Eze, who had looked set to move to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And now, in a cruel twist, the Gunners are aiming to complete the same trick for Hincapie.
David Ornstein reported on 25 August that Arsenal are working to sign Hincapie, who is prioritising a move to The Emirates over other potential destinations.
The report does mention that the move is subject to player exits, however, which could provide Tottenham with remaining hope.
Daniel Levy must not allow this one to happen.
