Ange Postecoglou to rub salt in Daniel Levy’s wounds over Morgan Gibbs-White
Daniel Levy probably didn’t think his popularity could sink much lower at Tottenham after sacking Ange Postecoglou in June.
Despite Postecoglou, 59, winning the Europa League title, the popular Aussie was handed his P45 due to a rotten Premier League campaign and Thomas Frank was hired by Spurs to replace him.
It’s been almost three months since the ex-Celtic and Australia manager was relieved of his duties at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but speculation has been rife about a return to the Premier League.
In fact, an unnamed Premier League had even looked at hiring Postecoglou just days after Daniel Levy sacked him.

Daniel Levy faces another Morgan Gibbs-White blow
Nottingham Forest are now said to be interested in hiring Postecoglou amid major doubts surrounding Nuno Espirito Santo’s future at the City Ground.
Forest’s controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering sacking ex-Spurs boss Nuno after a reported fallout with the East Midlands club’s board.
If Nuno is axed, Postecoglou could replace him – and that would see him link up with Morgan Gibbs-White just weeks after Levy failed to sign the Nottingham Forest star.
Tottenham have started the new Premier League season well with two wins out of two, including a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.
Levy’s decision to sack Postecoglou and hire Frank has so far been vindicated. However, we’ve seen it before where Spurs start the season well, only for the wheels to fall off when the weather gets colder.
And with injuries still an issue at Hotspur Way, signing new players is a must – and it’s something Levy is failing to do.
Gibbs-White, 25, is an attacking midfielder who Tottenham really could have done with before James Maddison’s serious ACL injury.
- Spurs were trying to sign Gibbs-White throughout July before he penned a new deal on 26 July
- Maddison is set to miss almost all of the new season after injuring his knee in a friendly against Newcastle a week later
- Arsenal have since beaten Tottenham to a deal for Eberechi Eze
- Frank has just eight days left before the summer transfer window shuts
However, a new contract was agreed at Nottingham Forest, putting paid any talk of a move to North London.
In a cruel twist of fate, Postecoglou could then find himself managing the player Levy, Frank and co wanted.

Who are Tottenham’s midfield targets now?
Postecoglou might get to enjoy having Gibbs-White in his squad in the Premier League this season at Nottingham Forest, but Frank could yet add to his squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday, 1 September.
Spurs are reportedly keen on signing West Ham attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta, while Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Manchester City’s Savinho have also been linked with moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Any of those signings would be good ones but, ultimately, they’re not what Levy went into the transfer window wanting for his new manager.
Frank is a great coach and has already overseen huge improvements to players like Richarlison and Djed Spence.
However, he still needs his chairman to show a more aggressive side when it comes to getting deals done and dusted.
