Tottenham Hotspur are waiting to learn the future of Alfie Devine after his loan spell at Preston North End.

The 21-year-old departed North London in the summer as he made the fourth temporary move of his young career.

Having previously spent time with Plymouth Argyle and Westerlo, there were hopes he would live up to his potential this campaign.

The Englishman certainly did that and left a positive impression at Deepdale throughout his spell in the Championship.

Devine’s future now hangs in the balance at Tottenham as they await a final decision from Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

The midfielder has always been a bright prospect in N17, and it finally feels as if he is hitting the heights expected of him.

He has played all but one second-tier game for the Lilywhites and has been a constant attacking threat at Deepdale.

To have contributed 15 goal involvements across all competitions from midfield is no mean feat and proves just how great he’s been.

Despite that, a report from Alan Nixon on Sunday revealed that Preston are yet to make a final decision on his future in Lancashire.

Heckingbottom’s side already have a deal in place for the Englishman that is available until the end of June, when his loan agreement ends.

That ends on 1 July and would allow other sides to make offers to Spurs if they want to sell the 2004-born ace.

Selling Devine could be a mistake for Tottenham, but for now, they are being left in the dark about his future at Deepdale.

Could Devine stay at Tottenham?

Things have gone so badly for the N17 outfit this season that it wouldn’t be the worst decision to call on academy talents moving forward.

There has been a lack of chances for starlets to break through recently, and it may prove to be worthwhile giving Devine a first-team chance.

That decision may be taken out of their hands if Preston are to activate their option to sign him this summer.

The saving grace may come as they await a potential takeover from Amr Zedan, but the legal side of things is hampering an agreement ahead of checks with the independent regulator.

That leaves both Tottenham and Devine to sit around and wait for news before his future can be secured.
