Pedro Porro makes Tottenham coach raise arms in ‘despair’ after Wolves scenes

Pedro Porro should be embarrassed after a moment from Tottenham Hotspur‘s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

The Lilywhites could not break through at Molineux on 25 April until Joao Palhinha struck late on, which looked ideal until relegation rivals West Ham won against Everton.

The Spaniard started at right-back in Roberto De Zerbi‘s third game in charge, but he could not make much of an impact.

When he is on form, the 26-year-old is one of Spurs’ best players, but he has been poor so far this season.

Tottenham fans want to see much more from him, and it appears that his coaches agree after what happened against Rob Edwards’ side.

What did Porro do in Tottenham draw with Wolves?

Tottenham star Porro blazed an effort over the crossbar from 25 yards out after Xavi Simons’ corner reached him, which made Andreas Gorgeson react.

BBC reporter Nick Mashiter witnessed the set-piece coach’s reaction, and it is safe to say that he was not impressed by the mishit effort.

Writing in the BBC’s live blog, he said: “Even Tottenham’s set piece coach Andreas Georgson raised his arms in despair after Pedro Porro’s wretched shot from Xavi Simons’ corner.”

He should have at least got the effort on target, it was an embarrassing effort.

How did Porro perform vs Wolves?

Porro was a mixed bag against the relegated side, he had 99 touches and created two chances for a teammate but failed to record a shot on target, per Fotmob.

He only completed 75 per cent of his passes and completed one of eight crosses, for a 12 per cent success rate.

Defensively, he made six tackles, five clearances and six recoveries in the contest, when he was forced to make an intervention.

In terms of duels, he won seven of 12 on the ground, for a 58 per cent success rate and lost the only one that he attempted in the air.

He needs to step up and show why he was previously regarded as one of the best players in his position, as his showing against the Old Gold was not good enough, like many others this season.

De Zerbi needs the former Sporting defender to step up in the final few weeks, rather than not contributing enough and watching the side plummet towards the drop.

If he cannot, then his future may come into question in the summer, with his contract running until the summer of 2028.
