Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has shown his commitment to fans by staying in London to recover from his injury.

According to Diario Cronica on 14 May, the centre-back was initially supposed to complete his rehabilitation in Buenos Aires, but changed his plans amid Spurs’ ongoing Premier League relegation battle.

The news outlet reports that the Argentina international is working with kinesiologist Luis Garcia as he continues his work to return to action as soon as possible ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

It has been claimed that the 28-year-old is thinking about moving on from the North London outfit, with Atletico Madrid a potential option, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him stay if Roberto De Zerbi’s team avoid the drop.

Romero’s commitment to Spurs can’t be doubted and fans in N17 will surely believe the defender is going nowhere after his recent actions.

Romero has been Tottenham’s best player in the Premier League this season in terms of Sofascore rating, averaging 7.11 after 23 appearances.

The centre-back has kept four clean sheets for Spurs in the current league campaign, recording 1.3 interceptions, 2.5 tackles and 4.1 clearances per game.

While the Argentine star has made an error that has led to a goal and has picked up two red cards, his aggressive demeanour is what makes him a fan favourite.

The defender usually comes out on top against opponents, winning 66 per cent of his total duels, 72 per cent of which are aerial ones.

Romero is also a modern-day defender who’s good with the ball at his feet, averaging 0.5 key passes per game, with a passing accuracy of 87 per cent, and completing 80 per cent of his attempted dribbles.

While keeping the likes of Romero and Micky van de Ven seems like a no-brainer, a certain section of the fanbase wouldn’t mind seeing them leave.

Most players in the current squad have left supporters in N17 wanting for more as Tottenham find themselves in an unprecedented position, with relegation a realistic possibility.

A massive summer rebuild will surely be on the cards at the North London outfit, regardless of which league they’re playing in, as players and the management need to take accountability.

Keeping Romero around to build the team around would be a sensible call, but only time will tell what the future holds for the Lilywhites.
