Five players Tottenham missed out on during summer transfer window including Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham enjoyed a positive end to the transfer window, but the summer came with some significant frustrations.

Spurs landed Xavi Simons towards the end of the window despite reported interest from rivals Chelsea.

Then, on deadline day, Randal Kolo Muani signed for Tottenham on a season-long loan from PSG.

However, it could have been very different as Tottenham News looks back at five players that the North London club missed out on, including Antoine Semenyo.

Tottenham made late move for Antoine Semenyo despite new contract

Spurs were credited with interest in Semenyo early in the summer as they sought attacking reinforcements.

However, it was reported that Bouremouth wanted £70million for their star player amid a mass exodus at the South Coast club.

In the end, the winger decided to sign a fresh contract with the Cherries, but that only put the Lilywhites off temporarily.

Indeed, the North London club held internal talks for the 25-year-old before the deadline, but he remained at the Vitality Stadium.

Morgan Gibbs-White pursuit became a nightmare for Spurs

Tottenham’s pursuit of Gibbs-White can only be described as a mess.

The Lilywhites thought they had made early inroads to sign the England international, triggering his supposed £60m release clause.

However, Nottingham Forest were furious with the North London club’s approach and even sought legal action.

The saga ended up in a predictably bizarre fashion, with Gibbs-White signing a new contract while Evangelos Marinakis hovered behind him in a strange public interview.

Thomas Frank wanted Bryan Mbeumo reunion

When Frank was named as Tottenham manager, many assumed he would bring Brentford’s best players to Hotspur Way.

Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa were unsurprisingly linked with moves to the Champions League outfit, but they were not the only ones.

Despite interest from his former manager, it was reported that Mbeumo’s heart was set on a move to Old Trafford.

However, the deal took so long to go through that there were murmurings that he could end up in North London.

At long last, the Cameroon international sealed a £65m switch to the Red Devils, while Spurs moved on to new targets.

Eberechi Eze dealt Tottenham the ultimate blow

Spurs fans will be sick of hearing about Eze, but it would be impossible to leave him out of this list.

After the Gibbs-White affair, the former Crystal Palace superstar became the prime target, and it seemed that he was keen on the move too.

The 27-year-old has been in stellar form over the past few seasons and would have been the ideal fit for Tottenham.

However, the Lilywhites were dealt a cruel blow when Arsenal hijacked the move at the last minute.

Savinho would have been a statement signing for Spurs

When news of the Lilywhites’ interest in Savinho broke, there was a feeling of optimism around the proposed move.

The Man City winger produced 10 Premier League assists last term, but is up against stiff competition for a starting berth in Pep Guardiola’s team.

An initial fee was floated around the £50m mark, which seemed cheap for the Brazilian, but money was not to be the issue.

After just one season at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola did not want to sell the winger, and that was understandable.

There were reports that Savinho was keen on a move to North London, but for now, he has remained with Man City.

All in all, it was a dramatic transfer window for Tottenham, and while they missed out on a host of top targets, they can feel pleased with the deals that they got over the line.
