View: Tottenham have ideal Ivan Perisic replacement in Chelsea ace Marc Cucurella

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou knows he needs to strengthen in various areas this summer in order to immediately hit the ground running in his new role.

Having already brought in the likes of James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario, the North London outfit are now reportedly eyeing a new left-back.

According to FootballTransfers, the club are closely following the situation of Marc Cucurella at Chelsea this summer.

The publication noted that Tottenham are eyeing the Spaniard as a replacement for Ivan Perisic for the new campaign.

The veteran Croatian is close to making a return to his homeland to join Hajduk Split, according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (6 July).

Given his ability and experience, Tottenham would be foolish to let go of the 34-year-old, but former Brighton man Cucurella does represent a fine replacement should Perisic move on this summer.

The left-back was a revelation during his one season at the Seagulls, with Cucurella shining at both ends of the pitch.

It was enough to convince Chelsea to swoop in with a £55million deal for the defender, with the club failing to further his potential, handing him just 24 Premier League appearances last season.

In those 24 matches, the left-back boasted a pass completion rate of 84.3%, and registered 1.46 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, as per fbref.

Moreover, the 24-year-old registered totals of 3.55 tackles per 90, 1.51 blocks and 0.86 interceptions, as per fbref.

There is no doubt all of those figures can be improved upon with regular minutes on the pitch, with a fully functioning team also able to help the Spaniard progress.

Cucurella is in real danger of throwing away his promising career in the sea of players at Chelsea, with a summer switch to Tottenham certain to help get things back on track.

In positive news for the latter, the player could be available for a relatively low fee this summer as the Blues continue to balance the books at Stamford Bridge.

In other Tottenham news, the club should pick Edmond Tapsoba over Micky van de Ven as their statistics are revealed amid a Fabrizio Romano update.
