View: Cristian Romero returning to Tottenham in fine form after another clean sheet
Cristian Romero and Argentina enjoyed a positive international break as they recorded back-to-back wins and clean sheets in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After what feels like an age, Premier League football is just a matter of days away from returning following the first international break of the season.
Plenty of Spurs stars jetted across the globe and were busy representing their respective nations, however, none of them were as busy as defender Romero. Following a trip to South America and 180 minutes of action, Ange Postecoglou will be keeping his fingers crossed that the 25-year-old returns to Hotspur Way unscathed.

Romero could arguably be considered the club’s most important player, as without him in the side, Tottenham’s defence is left very vulnerable. Therefore, with a trip to Bolivia on his schedule, a notoriously difficult environment to play in, Postecoglou would have been watching from behind the sofa.
And, after the performances that Romero put in, it became even more apparent just how important he is to his club.
Following an incredible display against Ecuador, where he made seven tackles, won seven of his eight ground duels, and completed 99 per cent of his passes during a 1-0 win (Sofascore), he followed it up by helping his nation keep another clean sheet in Bolivia.
This time, he didn’t have as much to do, as his side cruised to a 3-0 victory against a Bolivia side who were reduced to 10 men after Roberto Fernandez’s 39th-minute red card, for a nasty challenge on Romero.
It was a deserved red, and Spurs supporters would have been glad to see their defender still complete the match after a challenge that could have caused serious injury.

Nonetheless, he did play on and played on well. Romero made two clearances, three interceptions and one tackle while winning 100 per cent of his ground duels and completing 82 per cent of his passes.
It marked Argentina’s sixth clean sheet in a row since winning the World Cup, with Romero being involved in five of those matches.
He will therefore arrive back in England full of confidence, as Postecoglou’s men look to build on their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
