Vicario ‘to be Postecoglou saviour’ after what he did in Tottenham v Man United

Tottenham could end up getting saved by Guglielmo Vicario after they beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday.

Spurs managed to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with all three points to their name in a game that could be massive as we get into the latter stages of the season.

Ange Postecoglou’s men found themselves on the front foot for most of the clash with the Red Devils failing to capitalise on any of the chances they created for themselves throughout the game.

And, with Vicario now finally back from injury, after his performance against Ruben Amorim’s men on Sunday, it feels like things could finally be starting to get brighter in North London.

Guglielmo Vicario deserves plenty of praise for his Tottenham performance

Vicario, much like some of his other Tottenham teammates, has spent a large chunk of the 2024/25 season sidelined due to injury.

This resulted in Fraser Forster being called upon and even Antonin Kinsky being brought in as a new signing near the start of the winter transfer window.

However, with the Italian now back in action, it’s evident that he could become Spurs’ saviour this term.

As per Sofascore (16 February), in the 90 minutes Vicario was on the pitch he maintained a pass accuracy of 92 per cent and had 37 touches of the ball.

The ‘keeper also made six saves and two punches, and, of the six saves he made, each one was made in the box and as a result of his performance, he managed to prevent an average of 0.98 goals in the game.

Vicario also made two clearances and won 100 per cent of his aerial duels during the clash.

Not only does this show how impressive his performance was but it also shows that now he’s back from injury, he’s ready to reclaim his starting spot and hopefully help get Spurs’ season back on track.

Why Guglielmo Vicario could be Spurs’ saviour

Due to the sheer amount of injuries that Postecoglou’s men have suffered, their defensive line has been massively hindered.

Players such as Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been missed and Vicario’s absence has just been the cherry on top of the cake.

However, now that most of Tottenham’s first-team players are, at last, making their return to first-team action, it feels like things could finally start going their way.

Kinsky has been a more than solid stop-gap when called upon but, even after just this one game against Man United, it’s evident that Tottenham need someone a little older with a bit more experience to help keep their back four in line.

Because, at the end of the day, Spurs shouldn’t be as far down in the Premier League table as they are, no matter how many injuries they’re suffering from at the moment.
