Tottenham’s relegation chances surge in supercomputer prediction after Crystal Palace loss

Tottenham’s 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace was the moment when the rest of England really started to question the Lilywhites.

Spurs are well and truly in a relegation dog fight after their loss to the Eagles on Thursday, as the defeat leaves them 16th in the Premier League table with just nine games left to go.

There have already been whispers of Igor Tudor‘s potential sacking, despite him managing Tottenham for just three games, but three defeats in as many could be enough to see him go.

The Lilywhites are now just one point off the relegation zone, after Nottingham Forest and West Ham picked up important results this week, and a drop to the Championship looks increasingly likely.

Tottenham’s relegation chances nearly double after Crystal Palace loss

Before the Crystal Palace game took place, Opta‘s supercomputer had Spurs with an 8.22 per cent chance of relegation, but the loss has taken things to the next level.

Opta‘s supercomputer now has Tottenham at a 16.10 per cent chance of relegation, a 96.9 per cent increase on the previous estimation.

The Lilywhites are still tipped to finish 16th, which is where they currently find themselves in the league, but it could very well go down to the last day.

This means that Spurs will survive relegation by 2.53 points if the readings are correct. Imagine telling that to any Tottenham fan before the season started.

The Champions League dilemma that Igor Tudor has

Tudor now seems to be in a position where he could be sacked if results and performances don’t soon improve. The problem with that is how Spurs’ next fixtures are looking.

Tottenham have a Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid next, before the return leg takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and in between is a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

The fixture list isn’t exactly nice to the Lilywhites, and Tudor has to manage which players he puts on the field and for which games, because losing key players at this stage would be detrimental.

The interim boss may have to take the sacrifice of failing in the Champions League to have a better chance of Premier League survival, but even that could put his job at risk.
