Tottenham predicted XI v Luton Town: Ange Postecoglou to axe Brennan Johnson

Tottenham will look to bounce back from defeat against Fulham when they host Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday (30 March).

It will have felt like a long two weeks for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs supporters after they were beaten 3-0 by Marco Silva’s side at Craven Cottage (16 March).

With Spurs’ players preparing to jet around the globe during the March international break, they would have been keen to leave North London on a high.

Instead, they put in one of their worst performances of the entire season, failing to score in a Premier League match for the first time under Postecoglou.

The Australian has had to wait for an extended period to get all of his players back together in search of a reaction to their defeat against the Cottagers, with that opportunity set to arrive in the form of a clash with Luton this weekend.

The Hatters have one of the worst away records in the division, having won just twice on the road all season, and Postecoglou will know this is a must-win game, meaning the 58-year-old must therefore get his team selection spot on.

Ange Postecoglou will accept nothing less than three points from his Tottenham team against Luton Town

Guglielmo Vicario will be full of confidence after his debut for Italy, during which he kept a clean sheet, and will expect to start between the sticks this weekend. Despite conceding three times against Fulham, the 27-year-old did all he could as he made four saves from shots faced inside the box and completed 94 per cent of his passes (Sofascore).

Udogie also featured for Italy during the international break and is in line to start after making an early return to Hotspur Way. He struggled against Fulham as he was dribbled past three times and won just 40 per cent of his ground duels, and he will be keen to put that right against the Hatters.

On the opposite flank, Pedro Porro will likely start after his recent exploits with Spain. Porro also struggled against Fulham, winning just one of his six ground duels, failing with both of his dribble attempts and providing just one accurate cross into the box from four attempts.

With Micky van de Ven’s status still unclear, Radu Dragusin could be in line to make just his second Spurs start, and he will be hoping it goes better than his first after winning just one of his three ground duels and missing one big chance against Fulham.

Cristian Romero will likely start alongside him, after yet another positive couple of weeks with Argentina.

In midfield, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma could both start, and both players will be looking to impact the game against Luton much more than they did against Fulham. Sarr in particular struggled that evening, winning just two of his seven ground duels and completing 68 per cent of his passes.

James Maddison also wasn’t at his best last time out, failing with his one dribble attempt and both of his two crosses into the box, but will likely keep his place.

Ange Postecoglou could make a key change to the Tottenham front three against Luton Town

Son Heung-min is likely to lead the line after his two goals on international duty with South Korea, and Dejan Kulusevski could feature on the right despite his difficult evening against Fulham as he succeded with just 50 per cent of his dribble attempts.

On the left is where Postecoglou could make his only change. After Brennan Johnson’s heartbreak with Wales, following his poor performance against Fulham in which he completed zero per cent of his dribbles, Postecoglou might opt to play Timo Werner instead.

Werner was left behind by Germany during the international break, meaning he has had some much-needed time with Postecoglou, and the Australian might look to give him a chance on Saturday.

In other Tottenham news, one pundit has revealed he feels sorry for journalists as he hails what Postecoglou said recently.
