Tottenham v Crystal Palace: Brennan Johnson lauded in Premier League win

Brennan Johnson came off the bench and turned things around for Tottenham in their 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, 2 March.

The Wales international provided two assists in a brilliant second-half cameo with Timo Werner and Heung-Min Son the recipients of his passes.

Eberechi Eze’s direct free-kick goal gave Palace the lead, which they failed to hold on to.

Speaking on the Premier League world feed, Efan Ekoku, a BBC pundit, said (2 March, 4:39pm): “What on earth are the Palace defenders doing? Awful goal for them to concede. Credit to Brennan Johnson for winning the ball back and setting up Werner. Great work.”

Johnson wins Tottenham the game

Johnson came off the bench for Rodrigo Bentancur in the 63rd minute with Spurs chasing the game after Eze’s goal.

The Englishman’s direct free kick gave Palace the lead and Postecoglou decided to turn things around.

Setting up Werner for the equaliser after winning the ball back in the final third is something Postecoglou will certainly be proud of.

Johnson puts in his best performance for Tottenham

Despite a dismal pass completion of 69 per cent this season, per Fbref, he had a cameo that turned the match around.

He then set up another goal with Son scoring the third one to secure the three points for the hosts.

His pass complete may have been just 50 per cent on the day, per Sofascore, the ones that mattered the most were the two assists

He also lost all of his ground duels apart from the one that eventually led to the assist.

Aerially too, he got bullied, losing 100 per cent of his attempts.

For a player who’s just attempted 22 passes on an average per 90 minutes this season, this was a significant improvement, given the instant impact he had on the game.

Spurs created five big chances in the game and two of them were created by the Welsh attacker.
