Tottenham: Troy Parrott sends Ange Postecoglou a message after what he did on Monday
Troy Parrott has proven while on loan in the Netherlands with Excelsior Rotterdam that he deserves one final opportunity at Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed a largely positive debut season in the Premier League and could yet guide Tottenham to the UEFA Champions League at the first time of asking.
However, the Australian’s first eight months in England have been far from perfect, and he will know better than anyone that there are obvious issues which need addressing in his squad.
One of those areas is the number nine position, with Spurs yet to properly replace Harry Kane.
Son Heung-min has filled in well up front, scoring 15 Premier League goals this season, but the South Korea international isn’t getting any younger.
Meanwhile, Richarlison has shown clear signs of improvement by finding the back of the net 10 times in England’s top flight this season, but his injury issues have demonstrated that he cannot be relied upon.
With all that in mind, Postecoglou should consider handing Parrott one final chance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially after what the Spurs loanee did recently.
Troy Parrott could be the long-term striking solution for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
If Daniel Levy wants to save himself millions and an exhaustive search, then he should encourage Postecoglou to take another look at Parrott, with the striker demonstarting his quality as Excelsior Rotterdam cruised to a 4-0 home victory over Volendam on Monday (15 April) in what was a relegation six-pointer.
It was an eventful evening for Parrott, who scored and provided an assist to help his side move six points clear of the automatic drop zone in the Eredivisie but was also shown a red card after the final whistle.
After missing the last five league games due to injury, Parrott made a huge impact on his return as he helped Excelsior end a run of 11 matches without a win.
As per Sofascore, in addition to his goal and assist, he had a further three shots, missing one big chance, and completed one of his three dribbles as he proved a handful for the Volendam back line.
He also completed 82 per cent of his passes, with four of those key, and created one big chance which was converted as he flicked on a corner for Lazaros Lamprou to head home.
Postecoglou might be concerned about Parrott’s defensive limitations, and there is certainly room for improvement in that area for the Republic of Ireland international.
Parrott got stuck in against Volendam but only managed to win two of his five ground duels and one of his six aerial duels, making just one clearance across his 68 minutes on the pitch.

Nonetheless, this performance was just another example that Parrott deserves a final Tottenham chance after his impressive form this season, with the 22-year-old having been involved in 12 goals (eight goals and four assists) in just 15 starts in the Eredivisie.
