Tottenham: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sends Ange Postecoglou message after what he did on Tuesday

Ange Postecoglou should be seriously considering handing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg a start for Tottenham in the club’s next Premier League fixture.

Spurs will need to bounce back when they host Luton Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (30 March).

After a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage (16 March) Postecoglou might be tempted to make some changes, especially in midfield where his side were dominated by Marco Silva’s men.

The Australian would have been keeping a close eye on his players over the March international break, particularly those on the outskirts of his squad who would have been looking to make an impression on their Spurs boss with their international displays.

And one player who might have done just that is Denmark midfielder Hojbjerg.

Following his impressive display in Denmark’s 0-0 draw with Switzerland (23 March), coupled with his international boss’ recent positive comments, Postecoglou might have already been tempted to bring Hojbjerg in against Luton to provide some much-needed stability in midfield.

And after the 28-year-old’s goalscoring display in Denmark’s 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Tuesday (26 March), Postecolgou might just be fully convinced.

Hojbjerg was extremely impressive for Denmark in the heart of midfield against the Faroe Islands, scoring in the eighth minute to give his side the lead.

And the former Southampton man’s contributions didn’t end there.

As per Sofascore, Hojbjerg completed 88 per cent of his passes, with two of those key, and provided two accurate crosses into the box.

In addition, 11 of Hojbjerg’s 13 long balls were accurate, while he also had a chance to grab a brace, missing one big chance amid his three shots on target and four overall attempts at goal.

The Spurs outcast completed one dribble, and while he only managed to win two of his seven ground duels, he was flawless in the air, winning 100 per cent of his aerial duels, while also making one clearance and one tackle.

Hojbjerg has played just 1,003 minutes in the Premier League this season, the 13th-most of any Tottenham player (Premier League Official Website).

It is a steep decline from the 3,133 minutes he played in England’s top flight last season, and he will hope he has done enough with Denmark to convince Postecoglou to hand him a greater role over the coming weeks.
