Tottenham loanee Matthew Craig sends ‘Incredible’ message to Ange Postecoglou

On-loan Tottenham ace Matthew Craig has sent Ange Postecoglou a message after securing a play-off place with Doncaster Rovers.

Craig, who has made just one first-team appearance for Tottenham, has proven to Postecoglou that he could yet have a future at the club.

During what is his first loan spell away from North London, the midfielder has experienced great success in EFL League Two with Doncaster Rovers.

The 21-year-old, who joined up with Rovers in January, has had a fantastic influence on his temporary club and helped turn their season around.

When Craig arrived in South Yorkshire, Grant McCann’s men found themselves sat just four places above the drop zone in League Two.

Now, following a club-record 10-match winning run, which came to an end as they drew 2-2 with Gillingham on Saturday (27 April), Craig and his teammates have booked their place in the League Two play-offs in “incredible” fashion (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 29 April).

And having started 18 times in the league since joining midway through the season, it is fair to say that Craig has played a big part in lifting Doncaster Rovers’ recent success.

With a fair few players out on loan at the moment, this will certainly be considered one of the success stories.

Craig has received plenty of playing time, and more importantly, he has made a big impact with that time.

As per Sofascore, while in action against Gillingham, Craig completed 80 per cent of his passes, won three of his five ground duels and completed 100 per cent of his dribbles.

And he has put in performances of a similar level consistently over the past few months.

In Doncaster Rovers’ 4-0 win against Accrington Stanley (13 April), the holding midfielder created one big chance, made five tackles and won six of his eight ground duels, proving that he can do it all in the middle of the park.

His performance in the 2-0 win at Crawley (29 March) where he made six tackles and won nine ground duels was an example of the defensive solidity he can provide in midfield, something which Postecoglou could use right now.

Craig’s deal with Tottenham still has another two years to run, and he has definitely demonstrated to Postecoglou that he at least deserves a chance to prove himself during pre-season.

In other Tottenham news, James Maddison could be axed by Postecoglou against Chelsea.
