Tottenham dud to cost Postecoglou his job after what he did v Newcastle United

Radu Dragusin could cost Ange Postecoglou his job at Tottenham after what he did in the 2-1 loss against Newcastle United.

The Spurs supporters called for the boss to be sacked during the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (4 January) as a depleted home side squandered a one-goal lead for another Premier League defeat.

However, Dragusin may have delivered the final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou as Sam Matterface spotted in his live commentary for talkSPORT (4 January, 1:08pm) the Romanian making excuses for failing to deal with Isak’s eventual match-winner.

He said: “Dragusin left punch-drunk. As he looks up and sees Alexander Isak wheel away in celebration, he’s pointing to his body, saying he did get something on that.”

Radu Dragusin delivers final blow for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Postecoglou has ruined all his good faith in North London earned during his impressive maiden season at Tottenham last year – it is time to go.

While facing Newcastle, who arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a five-match winning streak, is no easy task, being run ragged across the pitch on home soil is unacceptable.

Dominic Solanke gave Spurs the perfect start after he opened the scoring in the fourth minute, only for Anthony Gordon to pull the visitors on level terms two minutes later.

From that moment, the match was only going to end one way, and even though Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are out injured, Dragusin managed to find a way to cement his status as the worst central defender in North London.

The defender was hauled off at half-time, having made zero tackles, zero interceptions, blocking no shots and making just one clearance [WhoScored].

Those types of numbers would normally be a positive if a side had kept the opposition out, but Spurs had conceded two by the midway point.

Dragusin, alarmingly, registered a pass-success rate of 53 per cent. That was the lowest figure of any Tottenham player to step foot on the field.

That compares to 87 per cent he averages in a Tottenham shirt [FBref] and is quite clearly not good enough. No wonder Ange was forced to take action.

Furthermore, he lost possession seven times [Sofascore] and failed to win his only duel for a zero per cent success rate.

Although Bryan King believes the current injuries are the only reason preventing the Romanian from being shown the door at Tottenham, should Postecoglou pay the ultimate price for the defeat, Dragusin should not be far behind.

Postecoglou was under immense pressure heading into the clash – now all eyes will turn to see how Daniel Levy reacts to another setback, which leaves Tottenham where they could end the weekend in 14th place.
