Tottenham: Delight for Daniel Levy after what’s been said about Leeds United loanee Joe Rodon
Daniel Levy will be delighted after Rob Page’s admission about on-loan Tottenham defender and Wales international Joe Rodon.
Rodon is currently on loan in the Championship with Leeds United where he has been a key player for Daniel Farke in the Whites’ push for promotion back to the Premier League.
Despite his impressive displays, it will be difficult for the centre-back to get back into the first-team picture at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, and he could therefore be moved on this summer.
Rodon will have just one year left on his Spurs deal in June, and Daniel Levy will be looking to recoup as much of the initial £11million fee that he paid for the defender as possible (Sky Sports News, 17 October 2020).
While Rodon’s performances on the pitch this season will have helped to do that, what his Wales boss said about him could also go a long way in helping Levy get his money back.
As per BBC Sport (16 March), ahead of Wales’ crunch UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland (21 March), Page has been speaking highly of Rodon, saying, “Ethan (Ampadu) and Joe (Rodon) have been exceptional this season. I’ve been to Leeds quite a bit and they’ve been outstanding.”
On-loan Tottenham defender Joe Rodon will hope for a strong end to the season with both Leeds United and Wales
Rodon and Ampadu, who both play alongside each other for Wales, have formed an impressive partnership at Elland Road.
After his performance against Chelsea, Postecoglou might have even been considering handing Rodon a second chance, but with the players ahead of him at Hotspur Way, it is likely not going to happen for the 27-year-old.
Nonetheless, he continues to shine in West Yorkshire, helping Leeds to concede just one league goal across their past three Championship matches.
In the 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town (2 March), Rodon won two of his three ground duels, seven of his nine aerial duels and completed 95 per cent of his passes (Sofascore).
He also made three clearances, one interception, blocked one shot and made one tackle, and somehow, he managed to improve on this performance a few days later in the 1-0 home win over Stoke City (5 March).
That evening Rodon was near-perfect as he helped his side to their fourth clean sheet in their past seven games in all competition.
The Welshman made two interceptions and two tackles, while he won four of his five ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels.
On the ball, he also demonstrated his quality as he played one key pass and five accurate long balls forward.
His performance remained consistent in the 2-0 win away at Sheffield Wednesday (8 March) which capped off a fine week for Leeds and Rodon.
On that evening the Tottenham loanee won four of his five ground duels and four of his five aerial duels while also completing 92 per cent of his passes, with one of those key.

Rodon also made two tackles and eight clearances while completing 100 per cent of his dribbles.
It is the kind of form which will have certainly turned heads, and Levy will welcome as many positive comments about Rodon as possible as he looks to sort out the defender’s long-term future.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou needs more players like one “clever” 83 per cent Spurs ace who was the only positive in the defeat to Fulham.
