Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou has Pedro Porro ‘Problem’ after what right-back did v Newcastle

Ange Postecoglou will be concerned about Pedro Porro after the right-back came off injured against Newcastle on what was a dreadful afternoon for Tottenham.

Spurs’ inconsistent run of form continued as they were put to the sword by Eddie Howe’s side at St James’ Park on Saturday (13 April).

The home side ran out 4-0 winners, as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar took advantage of some suspect Spurs defending, particularly from Micky van de Ven, with Isak bagging a brace.

It opens the door for Aston Villa to climb above Tottenham into the Premier League top four, with the Villans in action against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday (14 April).

Postecoglou will have plenty to think about after a miserable time on Tyneside, and Porro’s injury will most likely be top of the Australian’s list of concerns.

The Spaniard was replaced by Emerson Royal just a matter of minutes into the second half, with Alasdair Gold revealing that the 24-year-old appeared to have been struggling all afternoon.

Gold wrote via his official X account (13 April), “Emerson being called back from his warm-up to come on. Porro is down with a problem. He looked to be struggling and looking to the bench a couple of times in the first half.”

Spurs supporters will wonder why Porro was sent out at all for the second half at St James’ Park if he was struggling with an injury during the first.

With a North London derby against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to come in two weeks, Postecoglou will need all the help he can get, especially after watching Spurs’ performance against the Magpies.

Porro’s injury will explain some of his struggles, with the right-back making one error which led to a goal as his sliced backpass was intercepted by Gordon who then sat van de Ven down before smashing past Guglielmo Vicario.

However, apart from this mistake, the Spain international was pretty solid, which demonstrates how important he is to Postecoglou.

As per Sofascore, Porro made one last-man tackle, two tackles, and two clearances while also winning five of his eight ground duels.

In addition, he completed 82 per cent of his passes and 100 per cent of his dribbles across the 47 minutes for which he was on the pitch.

Postecoglou will hope Porro’s injury is nothing too serious, but based on what Gold detailed, it doesn’t look promising.
