Spence decision ‘to get Postecoglou sacked’ – Tottenham XI v Frankfurt
Ange Postecoglou might have sealed his fate after a decision he made regarding Djed Spence in the Tottenham team to take on Eintracht Frankfurt.
Postecoglou’s side will welcome Frankfurt to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (10 April) for the first leg of the two clubs’ UEFA Europa League last-eight tie.
This is a potentially career-defining match for Postecoglou, with Daniel Levy expected to sack the Australian if Tottenham don’t win the Europa League.
Therefore, the 59-year-old needs a positive result, and Tottenham have a great chance of getting one based on the Opta supercomputer’s prediction.
However, one team selection could prove very costly.

Postecoglou drops Spence for Tottenham v Frankfurt
Djed Spence has been one of Spurs’ most impressive performers in recent weeks.
However, Postecoglou has decided to leave the Englishman on the bench and bring in Destiny Udogie in the only change from Spurs’ 3-1 Premier League win over Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (6 April).
Fixture | Date | Venue |
Tottenham v Eintracht Frankfurt | 10 April | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium |
Eintracht Frankfurt v Tottenham | 17 April | Deutsche Bank Park |
As per Sofascore, Spence grabbed an assist and completed 98 per cent of his passes against the Saints, while he also made two interceptions and one tackle.
Meanwhile, Udogie was blasted after his most recent appearance in the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (3 April), where the left-back was dribbled past once and succeded with just 50 per cent of his attempted dribbles.
Therefore, Postecoglou’s decision to drop Spence for Udogie in such a big game seems strange.
Postecoglou cannot afford defeat against Frankfurt
If Spurs want a good chance of reaching the Europa League semi-finals, they must take a lead with them to Germany next week.
Considering the way Tottenham have played away from home in Europe this season, a draw likely won’t be enough, and a defeat would be absolutely disastrous.
Therefore, Postecoglou will need to hope his decision to start Udogie doesn’t come back to haunt him.
