Son may ‘never play for Tottenham’ again after what Alan Shearer said
Alan Shearer was less than impressed with Son Heung-min after Tottenham lost against Aston Villa in their FA Cup tie on Sunday.
The Spurs captain was the focal point of Ange Postecoglou’s attacking line and was arguably one of the worst players on the pitch.
But, one moment in particular from the Tottenham attacker caused a stir for the former Newcastle talisman.
Son Heung-min may never play for Tottenham again
In the first half of the tie, the South Korean international was barely involved in the game.
However, about 20 minutes in, Mikey Moore played an inch-perfect ball to the attacker, which Son ultimately managed to squander as he hit it straight into the arms of Emiliano Martinez.
Speaking live on BBC One (9 February, 18:01pm), Shearer shared his thoughts on Son’s missed chance.
“What a chance that is,” he said. “What a ball from Mikey Moore into the path of Son, but he hits it straight at Emiliano Martinez. “He should score.”
The 2024/25 season has been one to forget for Son, with the striker playing well below the level expected of him.
As per Sofascore, in the 90 minutes he spent on the pitch, the attacker maintained a pass accuracy of 100 per cent but only touched the ball 22 times.
He may have had one shot on target, but the fact that he missed one big chance and failed to attempt any dribbles in the game shows how poorly he played.
However, he did make one key pass and may have only lost possession of the ball eight times, but it still feels like the 32-year-old should have done better.

Defensively, the attacker wasn’t much better either – he only won 16 per cent of his ground duels and was also dribbled past twice.
This is why, after his performance against the Villans, it feels like he may never play for Tottenham again.
Ange Postecoglou needs Dominic Solanke back
Spurs have been massively hindered by their sheer number of injuries this season – those setbacks have torn the side apart, and it’s hard to see a way out for Spurs this season.
They’ve been one of the worst-performing teams in England this season and, unless Postecoglou can magically bring those who are injured back into the first team, it’s hard to see how there’s any future left for the former Celtic boss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Only time will tell what the future holds, but after Son signed a one-year extension to his stay in North London, Daniel Levy and Postecoglou may regret offering the forward another year on his deal.
