Postecoglou needs to axe Johnson at half-time v Frankfurt to avoid Tottenham sack

Ange Postecoglou needs to axe Brennan Johnson at half-time against Eintracht Frankfurt if he wants to save himself from the sack at Tottenham.

Postecoglou took a big risk by leaving one Spurs player on the bench for the UEFA Europa League last-eight tie against Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (10 April).

Supporters were left fuming after this baffling decision by Postecoglou, and it was a decision which backfired as Frankfurt took the lead inside the first six minutes through Hugo Ekitike.

However, Tottenham got back on level terms as Pedro Porro turned home a James Maddison cross in style with 26 minutes on the clock.

Should Tottenham fail to win the Europa League, Daniel Levy is likely to sack Postecoglou.

Therefore, changes need to be made at half-time, as Spurs will need to take a lead back to Germany to have the best chance of advancing to the last four.

Maddison was blasted for his performance in the opening exchanges at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As a result, the midfielder might have been at risk of being axed had he not redeemed himself with his assist. Postecoglou will now likely be looking elsewhere to make changes as he aims to turn things around in the second half, and the Australian should look no further than Johnson.

As per Sofascore, the Welshman completed just 67 per cent of his passes in the first half, and only managed 13 touches of the ball.

In addition, zero per cent of his crosses into the box were accurate, and he was also successful with zero per cent of his attempted dribbles, while the 23-year-old gave possession away six times.

Tottenham need to take the lead against Frankfurt

Postecoglou and his players have a big second-half coming up in North London.

Tottenham cannot afford to head to Germany without a lead. Therefore, something needs to change in the second half, and Spurs need to score at least once.
