Postecoglou ‘job saved’ by Tottenham player Glenn Hoddle finds frightening

Ange Postecoglou remains under intense pressure at Tottenham.

The Australian is bring kept in the job as a result of Spurs’ progress in the Europa League after a dismal domestic season that has seen the Lilywhites sit in 14th position in the Premier League.

However, his fortunes may be turned around by one star that he has been forced to rely on earlier than expected.

Lucas Bergvall can save Postecoglou’s bacon at Tottenham

Lucas Bergvall has been a rare positive for Tottenham this season after being thrust into the limelight due to the injury crisis that has plagued Postecoglou’s squad throughout the campaign.

The Swedish star has thrived with regular game time and he displayed one of his best performances yet in the 1-1 draw with Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (10 April).

The 19-year-old recorded a 95 per cent passing accuracy against the German outfit and made four passes into the final third [Fotmob].

He was constantly trying to get involved in proceedings and drive Spurs forward, taking 58 touches, including one in the opposition box.

Defensively, he made six recoveries and two interceptions and won the only aerial duel that he contested in the contest.

Glenn Hoddle was blown away by his performance. Speaking on TNT Sports (10 April), he said: “He’s learnt so quickly. Some people take two seasons to grow and they progress and they improve.

“He’s improved in such a quick time. So what he’s going to be like when he’s 23, 24… he’s going to be frightening.”

Tottenham will worry about Bergvall’s future

If the Lilywhites ace continues at this rate of development, surely he will outgrow Spurs if they keep struggling domestically.

To have any chance of keeping Bergvall, the North London outfit needs to improve dramatically and absolutely needs to win the Europa League and secure Champions League qualification for next season.

That may be enough to ward off potential interest in the Swedish sensation and his form will be vital in their chances of doing so, if he continues on his current trajectory.

If they do, that might save Postecoglou’s job as surely Daniel Levy could not sack a manager who has won the club’s first trophy in 17 years.

Therefore, the former Djurgarden ace is crucial to the Australian’s hopes of carrying on his work at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
