Guglielmo Vicario lets Tottenham down after early ‘wonderful’ moment in Crystal Palace loss
Guglielmo Vicario was bound to be watched closely against Crystal Palace after recent events had put his role into question at Tottenham.
The Italian has found himself out of form, with Spurs fans calling for Antonin Kinsky to start in his place.
However, Igor Tudor stuck to his guns and opted to give the 29-year-old a chance to redeem himself at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday.
It did not take long for Vicario to attempt to do so, with an early effort from the shot-stopper earning praise.
However, the rest of the game would leave little else to praise, with supporters seemingly vindicated in their request in the 3-1 loss.

What did Guglielmo Vicario do early against Crystal Palace?
In just the second minute, Vicario was called into action with Adam Wharton testing the Italian between the sticks.
The 29-year-old, who has been consistently poor as of late, stepped up in that moment, with Glenn Murray left praising the shot-stopper on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Murray said: “A wonderful save from Guglielmo Vicario. Adam Wharton is 10 yards out, and it falls to his feet – he drills it, and it was a really good save from Spurs’ number one.”
However, while Vicario deservedly received praise in that moment, he also struggled to keep up with his strong start.
One of the key moments of the game was when Ismaila Sarr scored Crystal Palace’s third goal of the night, and Vicario should face some blame.
The Spurs number was hesitant to come off his line before eventually doing so.
However, it was too late, as Sarr was able to poke the ball past the Tottenham number one, prompting Pedro Porro to flap his arms in frustration at this goalkeeper.
How Vicario continued poor form against Crystal Palace
Tottenham’s overall performance against Crystal Palace left a lot to be desired. Attempting to overturn a two-goal deficit with ten men was always going to be a struggle.
Vicario will be disappointed, as the Eagles had just four shots on goal, with three of them going past him.
While the Italian was poor, his teammates did not help either, as Tottenham created just one big chance and kept just 40 per cent possession. Spurs also had 12 shots compared to Crystal Palace’s nine.
On a personal note, Vicario’s data does not make for better reading either. His poor distribution was on show once more, with 39 per cent passing accuracy from long passes.

Although he was better at close range with 93 per cent accuracy in his own half.
Additionally, his goalkeeping duties were not the best either. He ended the match with -1.46 goals prevented, making just one save.
It was a night to forget for the Tottenham goalkeeper alongside his Spurs teammates, who basically let each other down in the key moments yet again.
