Conor Gallagher has perfect chance to announce himself at Tottenham amid Crystal Palace reveal

Conor Gallagher hasn’t had the best start to his Tottenham career.

The 25-year-old had grown increasingly unhappy over his lack of game time at Atletico Madrid, and Tottenham beat out Villa to secure his signature for a fee of £34million in the winter transfer window.

Although Gallagher has an abundance of experience at the top level, he has failed to hit the ground running under both Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

The Sofascore graphic below shows how underwhelming he has been for Tottenham, but that could all change when he faces his former side Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Conor Gallagher in excellent position to perform in Tottenham vs Crystal Palace

Spurs can’t afford to drop points against Oliver Glasner’s side at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and they may need their midfielder to turn up against the Eagles.

Gallagher spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Crystal Palace, excelling under manager Patrick Vieira.

However, he has scored more Premier League goals against Crystal Palace than any other opponent (four).

He also scored eight goals in 34 league appearances on loan at the Eagles in 2021-22, with only Wilfried Zaha netting more for them that term (14).

According to Sofascore, the 26-year-old has registered a pass accuracy of 81 per cent since arriving in N17, which is incredibly poor for a midfielder of his quality.

He may have his sights set on getting back into the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, but he needs to step up his performances drastically if he is to have a fighting chance.

Given his previous record against Crystal Palace, Thursday would be the perfect opportunity for him to kickstart a good run of form.

Can Gallagher still become a success at Tottenham?

Of course, he needs to be doing much more, but it’s clear that he has the potential to be a brilliant player in N17.

In the first half of the season with Atletico Madrid, he completed 2.3 tackles, 4.74 recoveries and 1.49 interceptions per game in La Liga.

During the 2021-22 Premier League season with Palace, Gallagher created 38 chances and had 86 touches in the opposition box.

His versatility is not being used fully by Tudor, and there’s no doubt that he has the experience and ability to spearhead Tottenham’s charge to safety.

And if he does so, then the decision to sign him in January will be a masterstroke.
