Ange Postecoglou wowed by ‘really important’ Richarlison after Tottenham v Everton

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will certainly be disappointed after his side left Goodison Park with just a point against Everton.

The two clubs played out a 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Saturday (3 February), with Jarrad Branthwaite stealing a point for the hosts in the 94th minute.

It was a big blow for the visitors, who thought they had won the match thanks to a stunning brace from Richarlison, with Jack Harrison having also netted for Everton.

Former Goodison Park attacker Richarlison delivered two superb goals against his former club, much to the frustration of the home supporters.

The Brazilian now has 11 goals to his name in all competitions this season, while he has scored more Premier League goals (nine) than any other player since the start of December [WhoScored, 4 February].

He is not only doing his club proud, but also his country, with the forward becoming the first Brazilian to score 10-plus league goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season [Squawka, 3 February].

Richarlison was certainly in the right place at the right time on a pitch he knows so well from his time at Everton, but there was still plenty of work needing to be done to guide the ball into the back of the net on both occasions.

The Goodison Park faithful once celebrated with the talented Brazil ace, but he became their enemy on Saturday, with Richarlison becoming the first former Everton player to score home and away against the Toffees in the same Premier League campaign, according to the official Premier League website (3 February).

In another bitter blow to Everton, the publication added that the striker now has six Premier League braces to his name, half of which have come at Goodison Park.

Richarlison shining for Tottenham

Tottenham fans were perhaps fearing the worst when Son Heung-min left for international duty with South Korea, with the North London outfit having lost fellow forward Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer.

But their fears have completely vanished thanks to the form of Richarlison, with only six players now above him in this season’s scoring charts [official Premier League website], one of which is his Tottenham teammate Son.

Richarlison

Along with his goals at Goodison Park, the Brazilian impressed in other areas, having made two key passes, one tackle and one clearance, as per Sofascore.

The display really pleased Postecoglou, who said after the match: “Richy was good again, not just his goals, his general play was really important, he worked hard for the team. There is more to come from Richy,” as quoted by Sky Sports (3 February).

His fellow forward Brennan Johnson didn’t have the best of matches at Goodison Park, but centre-back Micky van de Ven was hugely impressive in defence.
