Ange Postecoglou should give Troy Parrott one final chance at Tottenham amid positive loan spell in the Netherlands
Ange Postecoglou could throw Troy Parrott in at the deep end next season and give the striker a chance to finally prove himself at Tottenham after his fine form in the Netherlands.
Parrott is still only 21 years old, although, to a lot of Tottenham supporters, it will feel like he is much older.
That is because the striker has been around for quite some time now. He made his Premier League debut for Spurs during a 5-0 home win against Burnley under Jose Mourinho (7 December 2019) when he was still only 17 years old.
However, he has never been able to quite kick on in North London and has made just four senior appearances for the club in total.
Loan spells to the likes of MK Dons, Ipswich Town and Preston North End haven’t quite worked out for the Republic of Ireland international, who has four goals in 20 caps for his country.
Nonetheless, it seems as if the forward might be finally finding his feet as a senior player with his most recent loan spell proving to be his most productive one yet.
Parrott is currently playing his football with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 24 August 2023), and his form for his temporary club demonstrates signs of life in the player just as some fans might have been starting to give up on him.
His first loan overseas seems to be going according to plan, with the 21-year-old so far registering nine goal involvements, six goals and three assists, in 15 Dutch top-flight appearances, which amount to a total of just 763 minutes.
After being limited to minutes off the bench for most of the campaign, Parrott has started the last eight games for Rotterdam in the league, scoring three of his six goals and providing three assists across these starts.
His performance in the club’s 3-0 win against Heerenveen on Friday night (19 January) was arguably his most impressive yet, as he bagged a goal and an assist to inspire his team to victory.
His cross into the box was diverted home by Couhaib Driouech after just 18 minutes, and six minutes later the Irishman got himself on the scoresheet, as he latched onto a loose backpass and rounded the goalkeeper.
As well as his goal and assist, he also hit the woodwork and missed one big chance, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles and played one key pass (Sofascore).
He won two ground duels and made one tackle and two clearances in an all-action display, which might just have caught the eye of Postecoglou back at Hotspur Way.

Time is running out for Parrott to save his Spurs career, and he seems to be doing everything he can to prove he can still make it at the club after his performances this season.
It took Harry Kane a few loans to get it right, and fans will perhaps be keen to see a talented young player given one final chance, which Postecoglou will have the opportunity to do next season.
