Alan Brazil out of order with ‘porridge’ criticism of Tottenham defender Pedro Porro
Alan Brazil’s recent criticism of Tottenham defender Pedro Porro is unwarranted.
The right-back did not enjoy his best game in the 2-0 defeat against former club Manchester City on 14 May.
The Spaniard gave away a penalty late on for a foul on substitute Jeremy Doku in the box that led to Erling Haaland scoring his second goal of the game.
And Brazil did not hold back in his criticism of the full-back, saying on talkSPORT (15 May): “That Porro does my head in. I am not kidding. Porridge I call him. He does my head in. He is so frustrating.”
Pedro Porro offers plenty in attack for Tottenham
Porro has his deficiencies, of course, but he offers a significant attacking threat from full-back for Spurs.
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou asks for plenty of forward thrust from his wide defenders and the Spaniard provides that in spades.
Per 90 in the Premier League this season, the 24-year-old is averaging 27.26 touches in the attacking third, as well as 1.52 shots, 0.39 through-balls, 1.34 passes into the penalty area and 5.88 crosses – evidence of his involvement in both creating and getting on the end of chances in dangerous areas high up the field [FBref].
As a result, he has produced seven assists, helped by his status as a taker of corner kicks, as well as scoring two goals in league competition.

He can be erratic defensively at times or get caught out of position, but his Premier League tackle success rate of 68.9 per cent – winning 62 tackles overall – is evidence that he is certainly not shirking his duties out of possession [FotMob].
Bad days against the potential four-in-a-row champions City aside, Porro clearly contributes plenty of positivity to the Tottenham cause.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou should consider loaning Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine back to Plymouth Argyle.
