View: Tottenham Women announce new contract for Molly Bartrip in good move for the club

In a season that has left Tottenham Women with little to cheer about, defender Molly Bartrip has signed a new deal keeping her at the club until 2025.

Bartrip’s contract renewal will come as welcomed news by Spurs fans. She has been a key member of the squad since returning to the club in the summer of 2021 after several seasons at Reading, appearing 39 times over the last two seasons and playing the most minutes of anyone in the side this campaign – 1,998 (FB Ref).

This reliability has seen Bartrip act as a rock in an otherwise shaky Tottenham defence, so fans will be pleased to see her commit her future to the club.

At present, Tottenham finds themselves just two points off bottom-placed Leicester City, just one point clear of Reading – Bartrip’s former side, and level on points with Brighton; in the midst of a stern relegation battle.

However, as mentioned, Bartrip has been a constant presence in the team this season, and has shared her positivity about the long-term prospects of the club having signed a new deal.

“The plan was always to stay here because I see the bigger picture of the Club, the ambition, and that’s what I want to be a part of,” Bartrip said on the club’s social channels.

This season, Bartrip has shown herself to be a front-footed defender, ranking in the top 25% of centrebacks in the top eight women’s competitive competitions for tackles in the attacking third and errors, as well as being one of the side’s designated set-piece takers (FB Ref).

2022/23 has also seen Bartrip score her first goal for Tottenham, opening the scoring in Spurs’ memorable 8-0 demolition of Brighton back in October with a spectacular strike from range.

Tottenham will be hopeful Bartrip’s new deal can act as a springboard for the side to improve on, as with just five games to go including hosting fellow relegation candidates Brighton and Reading as well as travelling to league leaders Manchester United, the next month is bound to have a significant impact on the side moving forward.

Spurs and Bartrip will be desperate to beat the drop, as relegation would be nothing short of disastrous for the club; however, todays news can certainly paper over the cracks for Tottenham at present – at least until they face Brighton next weekend.
