Tottenham Women star Martha Thomas must replicate her international form in North London
Tottenham Women have been struggling for goals in recent weeks, and Martha Thomas will be keen to bring her international form back to North London after her recent struggles.
It has been a largely positive debut season for Robert Vilahamn in the Women’s Super League, although his side have gone slightly off the boil in recent weeks.
They have won just one of their past five games in all competitions, scoring only three goals in that time.
Their most recent outing saw them beaten 2-1 at Brisbane Road by Aston Villa Women on Sunday 18 February, a result that leaves them sixth in the WSL, three points behind Liverpool Women in fifth.
A big reason for their goalscoring struggles has been Thomas’ decline in form.
Following her arrival from Manchester United Women in the summer, the 27-year-old couldn’t stop scoring as she found the back of the net seven times in her first five Spurs appearances.
However, since then she has scored just twice in 14 games for Tottenham, and Vilahamn will be keen to get her firing again as soon as possible.
Tottenham Women need to get Martha Thomas back among the goals
At one point in the season, Thomas sat top of the WSL’s scoring charts with six goals.
Fast forward to February and she finds herself in sixth with seven goals and the Golden Boot out of her sights with Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw leading the way with 14 league goals.
After such a promising start to life in London, Thomas will be disappointed with how her season has progressed, but she will certainly have taken some confidence from her recent performance for Scotland.
Thomas started and scored twice in the Pinatar Cup semi-final against the Philippines on Saturday 24 February.

It was the first time she had found the back of the net for club or country since her historic strike against Arsenal Women as Spurs claimed their first-ever victory over their North London rivals with a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 16 December.
With that scoring feeling back, Thomas will be looking to once again write history for Spurs when they return to action against the same opponents she last scored against, Arsenal, on Sunday 3 March.
