Tottenham Women set for fourth clash with Manchester City Women after FA announcement

Tottenham Women and Robert Vilahamn will be sick of the sight of Manchester City Women by the end of the season.

For the fourth time during the 2023/24 campaign, Tottenham will take on Manchester City.

Having already played them twice in the FA Women’s Super League, City knocked Spurs out of the Continental Tyres League Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory at Brisbane Road on Wednesday 7 February.

Less than a week later, it was announced that Spurs had once again been drawn against City in cup competition as the two sides were revealed as opponents in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 12 February).

It is another home tie for Spurs with the cup tie set to be played at Brisbane Road on the weekend of 10 March, and Vilahamn’s side will be looking to finally do something they haven’t done all season – score a goal against City.

Tottenham Women must go again

Vilahamn could struggle to get his players up for another clash against City, especially considering the fact that Gareth Taylor’s side have put 10 goals past Spurs across three games this season without reply.

What Vilahamn must point toward is the improving performances of his players against one of the WSL’s heavyweights.

Each time the two teams have met, City have had less and less control of the contest, with the size of the scoreline reducing each time, and Vilahamn could perhaps use the past losses as motivation for his players.

A win against City next month would represent improvement and signs that the club are moving in the right direction.

After the 7-0 thrashing in late November, Spurs have come a long way, and they can cap that progress off with their first win and goals of the season against City at the fourth time of asking, with home advantage certainly a big boost.

Spurs have lost just six times in 20 games this season, with 50 per cent of those losses coming against Manchester City.

A win could therefore signal that they are ready to kick on to the next level.

In other Tottenham news, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League must be the minimum expectation for Ange Postecoglou this season.
