Tottenham Women need to replace Martha Thomas after international development
Tottenham Women striker Martha Thomas’ best days appear to be behind her.
Daniel Levy is prepared for a summer clean-out after Tottenham announced the sacking of Robert Vilahamn following a difficult season.
This follows the departure of men’s coach Ange Postecoglou, who was also underwhelming for large parts of the 2024/25 campaign.
However, if Spurs are to progress next season, they also need to improve on players such as Thomas.

Tottenham should replace Thomas after her awful Scotland cameo
Thomas has signed a new contract with Tottenham until June 2028.
The forward joined from Manchester United in September 2023 and scored seven goals in the Barclays Women’s Super League during her first season in North London.

However, Thomas failed to find the back of the net in the league this season.
Therefore, despite signing a new deal, the 29-year-old should not be a starter next season, which was further emphasised by her recent international display as Scotland drew 1-1 with the Netherlands Women at the Koning Willem II Stadion (3 June), which saw the nation relegated to Group B of the UEFA Women’s Nations League.
Thomas was a second-half substitute, completing just over half an hour in Tilburg. However, Melissa Andreatta would have wished she had kept her on the bench.

In addition, Thomas lost possession 12 times, with her one key pass and four successful aerial duels from five the only positives from her cameo.
Thomas is not consistent enough to start for Tottenham
The performance against the Netherlands was not dissimilar to the level Thomas displayed for Spurs this season.
The forward made 22 appearances for Vilahamn in the WSL, starting 13 of those games and was unable to score a single goal. This is a huge dip in form from the previous season, where she scored seven goals in 19 appearances for Tottenham in the WSL.
As a result, Tottenham should look to sign a new striker to start ahead of Thomas under their new manager.
