Tottenham Women: Martha Thomas is hero as FA Cup history is made against Leicester City Women
Martha Thomas scored a 118th-minute winner against Leicester to fire Tottenham Women to their first-ever Adobe Women’s FA Cup final.
Robert Vilahamn has made history in his debut season as Spurs manager by leading his side to Wembley.
Vilahamn and his players welcomed Leicester City Women to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (14 April) for the FA Cup semi-final, with both teams making their first-ever appearance in the final four of the competition.
It was a nightmare start for the home side as Jutta Rantala gave Leicester City the lead after just 12 minutes.
And it wasn’t until the 83rd minute that Spurs drew level as Jessica Naz capitalised on a mistake at the back and finished well to equalise for the hosts.
That sent the match to extra-time, with Thomas heading in the winner in the 118th minute in front of the 18,000-plus Spurs supporters in attendance.
Martha Thomas the hero for Tottenham Hotspur Women on a historic afternoon
It was nervy, but Spurs got the job done and will now take on Manchester United Women in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday 12 May.
And it was all thanks to former United striker Thomas, who joined Spurs from the Red Devils ahead of the 2023/24 campaign getting underway.
Thomas made a fantastic start to the season, finding the back of the net seven times in her first five Spurs appearances.
But her form has declined drastically as the season has gone on, with the striker scoring just twice since October.

However, she picked the perfect moment to rediscover her scoring boots and net her 10th goal of the season, and she will be hoping for a bit more magic against her former side at Wembley next month.
