Beth England ‘finished at Tottenham Women’ after recent development

Beth England’s best days appear to be behind her after what happened in Tottenham Women’s defeat against Chelsea Women.

It has been a difficult second season for Robert Vilahamn in North London.

Spurs are without a win since late-January and slipped to 10th in the Barclays Women’s Super League after a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea Women at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (4 May).

As a result, it looks as though a lot of work needs to be done on the squad this summer, and signing a new striker should certainly be a priority after England’s performance against Chelsea.

England struggles for Tottenham v Chelsea

When Tottenham signed England from Chelsea, it was seen as quite a coup.

After she arrived at Tottenham in January 2023, England scored 12 goals in her first 12 WSL games for the Lilywhites.

However, the 30-year-old has found the back of the net just 13 times in 32 league appearances across the last two seasons, and the striker’s performance against her former side on Sunday suggests that she might be finished at the highest level.

As per Sofascore, England managed just one shot, which was off target, and succeeded with zero per cent of her attempted dribbles against the Blues.

In addition, the forward completed just 67 per cent of her passes, while none of her three attempted crosses were accurate, and won just two of her 10 duels.

Vilahamn needs to turn things around at Tottenham

Vilahamn’s impressive first season in North London saw him rewarded with a new contract by Tottenham.

However, the Swede’s second year in charge has not gone to plan, with the Lilywhites regressing, and if things don’t improve quickly, Vilahamn could be in trouble.

As a result, the 42-year-old needs to make improvements where possible, and that could include signing a younger striker who has a point to prove.

England is certainly a great option to have in the squad. However, it is clear that someone new is needed in that position, especially with Martha Thomas failing to score a single goal in the WSL this season.
