Ashleigh Neville crucial for Tottenham Women in win v Crystal Palace Women

Ashleigh Neville demonstrated her importance once again as Tottenham Women beat Crystal Palace Women on Sunday.

Robert Vilahamn’s side made it back-to-back wins in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a 3-2 victory against the Eagles at Borough Sports Ground on 26 January.

Beth England continued her bright run of form, scoring twice to put Spurs 2-0 ahead in the first half, before Palace drew level in the second half through goals from Katie Stengel and Ashleigh Werdeen.

Olivia Holdt stepped off the bench to win it for the visitors in the closing moments of the match. However, it was right-back Neville who really demonstrated her importance to Tottenham in the win.

Spurs were eliminated from the Women’s League Cup after they were beaten 2-1 by West Ham Women at Brisbane Road on Wednesday (22 January). Therefore, Vilahamn would have been delighted to see his side respond with a win against Palace.

While all the plaudits will likely be reserved for Holdt after her match-winning strike, Neville’s performance deserves a special shoutout.

As per Sofascore, the 31-year-old put in a shift defensively, making five tackles and two clearances, while winning 14 of the 19 ground duels that she contested.

However, it was going forward where the right-back really made a difference. Although she only managed to complete 73 per cent of her passes, two of those were key, and one led to an assist.

Neville also completed 100 per cent of her crosses into the box, and Vilahamn would have no doubt been incredibly delighted with the defender’s performance.
