Tottenham ‘ready to pounce’ for Kolo Muani amid £80m transfer twist

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to pounce on a potential Premier League exit as they continue their pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani.

Spurs have been in the market for attacking reinforcements under pressure from supporters so far this month, and are openly interested in the Paris Saint-Germain star, 26.

According to page 94 of the Mail on Sunday (12 January), PSG are chasing Aston Villa sensation Jhon Duran, which would push Kolo Muani further out of the French champions’ reckoning and potentially into the arms of Ange Postecoglou.

Villa may demand up to £80million for Duran as a January exit, which would mean an emergency to sell Kolo Muani as quickly as possible to recoup funds, and Daniel Levy will be on red alert – even if it transpires to be a loan-to-buy deal.

Tottenham move for Kolo Muani could go to the wire

With many believing Son Heung-min is depreciating and other Tottenham attacking talent are hit-and-miss, strengthening the side all over the pitch is a priority.

Postecoglou has also had to deal with rampant injury and illness issues sweeping across his squad, and the addition of an established French international would do no harm to his options.

While not always a regular in the PSG team and is now surplus to requirements, Kolo Muani showed his excellent ability for both Nantes and Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in his career and needs a platform to play every week.

His style of play is a direct, cut-and-thrust, all-action manner – one which could be a match made in heaven for Postecoglou’s high-risk, high-reward tactical preference.

If Spurs want to battle with a disciplined shape to a 1-0 win – like they did so well against Liverpool last Wednesday (8 January) – then Kolo Muani probably isn’t the man to chase

However, if they want to win a game 5-4 and entertain the supporters as they have sought to do for most of Postecoglou’s reign, the Frenchman is ready and waiting to offer that box-office contribution.
