Tottenham ‘miss huge Ansu Fati opportunity’ as Fabrizio Romano shares update

Tottenham missed a perfect opportunity to sign Ansu Fati on a cheap deal from Barcelona.

The Lilywhites were keen to add attacking reinforcements to their squad this winter and did so with a last-gasp loan deal for Mathys Tel.

With that being said, Ange Postecoglou may have wanted more than Daniel Levy brought in and there was a great chance to sign at least one more player.

Spurs were linked with a loan move for Fati [Fichajes] but no deal went through and now Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on his future.

Tottenham miss huge Ansu Fati transfer opportunity at Barcelona

The transfer specialist reported on 6 February that the 22-year-old has been left out of the Catalan giants’ squad list once again.

As a result, it is likely that Hansi Flick would have been willing to part ways with the Spain international before the end of the winter window.

If the attacker isn’t even going to feature for Barca, they may as well have cashed in and moved him on given their financial problems in recent years.

This could have seen Spurs step in for the number 10 at Camp Nou by making a low offer to test the La Liga leaders’ resolve during January.

Although this wouldn’t have necessarily been a signing to blow fans in North London away, it could have proved to be a shrewd piece of business.

Fati’s versatility to play on either flank or through the middle as a striker or as an attacking midfielder he could have filled in, in various roles.

It is a blow that the Lilywhites never took the initiative to make a deal happen, especially given the current situation.
