Tottenham have just received the worst possible update on Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham are in all kinds of trouble under Thomas Frank, and it isn’t getting any easier.

Frank is under intense sack pressure after Spurs fell to yet another defeat in the Premier League, with Callum Wilson scoring a late winner for West Ham on Saturday.

The former Brentford boss is expected to remain in charge for the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, but the Tottenham hierarchy are now turning against him.

As if there wasn’t already enough chaos around the Lilywhites, a new update has just been revealed about the fitness of Pape Matar Sarr.

Pape Matar Sarr struck down with illness away from Tottenham

Sarr has been away with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) since the middle of December, meaning he hasn’t been available for Tottenham.

However, the 23-year-old has only made one appearance across the whole tournament, in a 3-0 group stage win over Benin.

Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the final on Sunday night to win the AFCON title, with Pape Gueye scoring the only goal in extra time to decide a chaotic game.

Sarr didn’t get onto the pitch, though, as has been the case for the entirety of the knockout stages.

According to Jay Harris, Sarr was among several Senegal players who were struck down with illness during the final.

The Spurs midfielder reportedly had to make the trip to the hospital, but those rumours are unconfirmed at this stage.

Tottenham’s midfield struggles continue with Sarr news

It already seemed unlikely that Sarr would be ready to feature for Tottenham against Dortmund on Tuesday evening, but the news of his illness all but rules him out of the game entirely.

Frank is already missing the likes of Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur through injury, with Yves Bissouma also unavailable for the visit of the Germans as he was not included in the Champions League squad.

With Sarr now expected to be absent as well, the Dane has a real issue deciding who will start in the centre of midfield, with Conor Gallagher also ineligible.

The last thing Frank needed with so much pressure on his shoulders was an injury crisis, but that is exactly what the Spurs boss is dealing with.
