Tottenham ‘have Cristian Romero replacement’ as Jonathan Tah breaks silence

Cristian Romero could potentially leave Tottenham in the upcoming transfer window, leaving Daniel Levy in need of a replacement soon.

The World-Cup-winning centre-back has been a key player for the North London outfit over the years, and his loss will arguably be a big blow for them.

Ange Postecoglou has heavily relied on Romero, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see top European teams vying for his signature soon.

Atletico Madrid have their eyes on the Argentina international, and it will be interesting to see whether the La Liga outfit will meet the Lilywhites’ demands.

Romero transfer replacement needed at Tottenham soon

If the North Londoners do lose the 26-year-old next summer, Levy may need to put his hands in his pockets and reinforce the squad.

Romero and Micky van de Ven have formed an impressive duo for Spurs, but their consistent fitness issues have been frustrating for fans.

Archie Gray has had to deputies at centre-back for a significant period this season, and it would make sense for the North Londoners to sell the Argentine national while his stock is high.

While there’s no doubt about the former Atalanta defender’s qualities, his injury issues make him a liability.

Levy has bargain defender in Jonathan Tah

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah has been linked with a move to the North London outfit in recent months [TBR Football].

The Germany international has stood out in the Bundesliga over the years, helping Xabi Alonso’s team to the league title last season.

With the 29-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign, there’s been speculation around the defender, and he’s finally made an admission about his future.

Tottenham have learned that they could potentially secure Tah for free, as he’s reiterated his desire to start a new chapter following the end of his deal at Leverkusen.

Speaking to Kicker, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano on X (21 April), the centre-back said: “Everything was said from the start. There was a point in time when I made the decision not to extend my contract and not to stay here. It remains that way now.”

Levy now has the opportunity to fill the void that Romero may leave at Spurs with his potential departure for relatively little cost.

It’s not always that players like Tah are available on a free transfer, and the North London outfit’s chief will undoubtedly recognise that.

While fans have felt Levy has been stingy with spending money over the years, they wouldn’t mind if the co-chairman opts to get the German defender for free over other possible targets.

The centre-back’s saga is one to keep an eye on as the Lilywhites will evidently have to convince him of their project, which isn’t in the best shape right now.
